climate actions
Background
ID Genève’s climate strategy focuses on two key areas: first, upstream Scope 3 emissions, that is, emissions generated by our supply chain (raw materials, subcontractors, transportation); and second, downstream Scope 3 emissions, related to the lifecycle of our products. In both of these areas, ID Genève’s results are already significantly below the industry average. For example, the Circular S collection generates 54% fewer emissions than an equivalent conventional watch, and only 8.6% of the materials used in these timepieces are virgin materials.
Beyond our own impact, we aim to drive change across our industry; by sharing our data, methods, and practices, influencing our suppliers, and taking a public stance on circularity in the watchmaking industry, we hope to generate a positive impact within our ecosystem.
Commitment to the 1.5°C Goal
ID Genève is committed to aligning all of its design, sourcing, and partnership decisions with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, in accordance with the Paris Agreement (2015).
Our most significant contribution to the fight against climate change is primarily reflected in the emissions we help prevent by minimizing the climate impact of our products. As a result, for every ID Genève watch sold, the equivalent of 2.13 kg CO₂eq is avoided compared to a standard watch.
In addition to this contribution, we are also focused on:
continuously reducing the carbon footprint of the supply chain (upstream Scope 3)
extending product lifespans to reduce the need for new production (downstream Scope 3)
guiding suppliers and partners toward practices aligned with the 1.5°C target
actively contributing to the transformation of the watchmaking industry
Reduce the proportion of virgin materials in watches, packaging and straps
Base 2024: 8,6%
Target December 2027: <5 %
Actions: Increase the proportion of reprocessed solar steel · Expand the range of components that do not require extraction
Full traceability through Tier 2 of the supply chain
Base 2024: Tier 1 : 100%, Tier 2 : partial
Target September 2027: Tier 2 :100%
Actions: Evaluate Tier 2 suppliers · Collaborate with the WE consortium to develop a standard format for environmental data
Ensure that no precious metals and stones (gold, diamonds) are extracted used in the collections
Base 2024: 0% (since 2020)
Target: 0% maintained
Actions: Continue to exclude mined materials · Explore alternatives (urban mining, reprocessed materials)
Increase the proportion of secondary or recyclable materials in the straps
Base 2024: 75%
Target: December 2028: ≥ 90%
Actions: Develop new alternatives
Documented carbon footprint for 100% of active collections
Base 2024: Circular 1, S, C, documented
Target December 2026:
Actions: expand the ClimatePoint partnership to include new collections, publish the results on the website
